Sikh Union makes a large contribution to the Eye Care Camp Fund for 2009

Stoneleigh Lodge Chairman presents a cheque to the chairman of the Eye Care Cmp Fund Charity Saudagar Singh Nagra.

The Panesar Family also added to this years fund fund by presenting a separate cheque for £400.

City Centre Walking Tour

The hospital has been open for two years, a birthday we celebrated a few days ago, we thought it appropriate to do a walking tour of the now active City Centre. The tour takes you around the most important parts of the hospital from Reception through to the Outpatients Departments (OPD) and the beds for patients from surgeries. The video was shot a few days ago just after the Eye Care Camp for 2007. We were still dealing with many of the operations and surgeries that had been funded by the Lions club of Godiva. We hope you find it useful and indicative of the work we are carrying out.

We have just completed the final planning and preparation for Camp 2007. The camp will open for two days from the 31st March 2007. This is a little later than we usual run the event but hopefully it will be as successful as previous events.

Eye camp a blessing for 13,000

More than 13,000 underprivileged people in India received free eye care treatment at a recent eye camp, thanks to generous Coventry folk.

The three-day camp, for people who cannot afford hospital fees, was held last month in the Punjab region by members of the Coventry Godiva Lions.

Lion Saudagar Singh Nagra, 52, of Hugh Road, Stoke, Coventry, runs the registered charity Eye Care Camp Fund. Every year, he and a team of volunteers including Lion members in India, set up an eye care clinic in a temple in the town of Phillaur.

While they are there, they offer free eye checks, treatment and operations for people who can't afford to pay for their treatment and are at risk of developing severe sight problems or even going blind.

The camp costs about £4,300 each year to run and was entirely funded by donations and fundraising in Coventry.

The money is to cover the cost of medicines, hiring premises and getting patients to and from the hospital.

Businessman Mr Nagra said:

"The camp was very well received this year and we had more than 13,000 people come for treatment. The doctors carried out 95 operations to remove cataracts. We have been doing it for 14 years and have got a good team built up now both here in Coventry and in the Punjab.

People travel to the camp from all over the region - some people travelled as far as 150km (90 miles) because it's the only opportunity they have to receive eye care treatment.

These people would not receive the treatment they do if it was not for the generous donations from the people of Coventry. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us."
